I love this for about a bazillion reasons! You can probably guess all the usual ones (I'm pretty predictable. lol) , but I want to say thanks for taking me home, even if for a few minutes.
I grew up in PDX, and have been feeling a little homesick the last couple of days. Seeing a pic of the Schnitzer marquee and mention of the Heathman were just what I needed. I could see/hear Broadway in my head as I read this.
I don't know if I realized you grew up in PDX! We have more in common than ever, haha. The Schnitz was one of my favorite venues to see shows. (Saw a crazy Bill Maher show there, and I thought we were going to go in lockdown because the hecklers were so bad! They eventually got kicked out, but Bill pretty much stopped the show.) I lived in SE, close in, on Hawthorne. The city really shaped my adult life, and the music was always top notch. Glad to bring you back a little glimmer, did you go to a lot of shows growing up there?
Love this article Jessica. I have a new pub called “Great Books, Great Cities” and wondering whether you might have an interest in writing a guest piece about the significance of Powell Books in Portland with full attribution back to your Substack. If you are open to this, let’s discuss.
Thank you so much, D-M! I didn't know you had another Stack, I'll be sure to follow it asap. I would love to write a guest piece about Powell's Books. The downtown location was a major part of my Monday Funday routine after work! I saw some fantastic authors speak there and bought many books there. And the Hawthorne location was a stone's throw from my pad. Let's chat!
Thank you Mrs Snugs for capturing our love story to a soundtrack by Wilco so beautifully! I love you!!❤️❤️❤️
A total soundtrack!

I did! I feel really lucky to have been there when I was. I was trying to think if I'd see any shows at The Schnitz, but I'm drawing a blank.
Well I have a lot of setlists from my years in PDX, so you’ll be seeing many more!
YES!
So many memories! And I love the Fountains of Wayne setlist at the end. I can't wait to hear about more shows... and treasured setlists!!
Thank you!
I love reading about the set lists. So many stories about acquiring them.
Wonderful way to start the morning. 🎶🎉🌈💚🌻
Thank you! Acquiring them is a whole other story at times...
