Why April Fools' Day Matters 040222
From sex and family drama to work woes and hangovers, what's on your mind today? Here we go! Day 36.
Yesterday was the one year anniversary of when my husband and I got our J&J vaccines. We waited two weeks until this picture (above) could take place with my parents, but April Fools’ Day to me will never be funny, not funny at all.
When so many of us were staying up all night trying to get appointments for our shots to happen a year ago, I wrote this story, “The Florist.” It’s a true tale, but it’s not about me. You can listen to me read it here!
These memories from only 365 days ago are sobering. I hope you all have a sunny Saturday. Stay safe and sane, my friends.
What’s on your mind this morning? Welcome to a safe space to reflect light on three things, and please share in comments.
Cheers,
Jess
I love this photo. Hugging and creating our pod was so needed. I agree, April Fool.’s Day is no laughing matter. The Florist story is filled with compassion, trust, and love. 🌻💚🌻💚
I agree with you about April 1. A very meaningful (not silly) day for many of us. The Florist is such a good story! Like with so much of your writing, you create mental images for your readers and listeners. Nicely done! Lots going on in that short (true) story. Here's to vaccines, and to those who take them seriously and respect Science. And here's to a Sunny April Saturday! (My Little Fire bandmate Joe Scott once wrote a wonderful song called "Great Day In April," and I think about it each year around this time.)
