There is friendly and then there is fuckery. 041322
What's on your mind today? Here we go, day 47!
A man was flirting with a close girlfriend of mine (who is a nurse) while his wife was going through a pretty serious procedure in the hospital. The man kept mentioning to my friend that he wanted to take her out to thank her, and although it seems like a nice gesture, it’s creepy as fuck. When the wife was being relieved of the IVs in her arm, the man actually hinted at taking my friend out again (and without his wife). My friend said to the wife, “Once I get all these tubes unhooked, you can slap him in the face.” Seriously, like nurses are not dealing with enough right now?
With more time to sit and ponder this story (that for many reasons also struck a personal chord with me being in the hospital last summer), it makes me think about being enraged or simply just not engaging with the douchebags at all. I think my friend handled it perfectly. There will probably never be a right answer, but you need one for yourself and what you can tolerate.
To hear a joyful story seems hard to come by these days while many of us are struggling. On a lighter note, the shocking deliciousness in the picture (above) should be available on the farms soon. The promise of Spring. And here if you’d like, you can read my most recent (and hopeful) piece, “The Promise of Spring”. Happy Wednesday, friends.
From sex and family drama to work woes and hangovers, what's on your mind today? Welcome to a space to reflect light on three things, and please share if you're comfortable doing so.
The way your article starts, makes me ill. I hope the wife confronts him after her recovery. What a scumbag. Wow, your friend has grace and strength (not to have punched him)!
Spring, a new season…can’t wait for ramps and fiddleheads. 😋🌈

I love your Promise of Spring piece. So much heart there. And so little heart with that flirtatious, creepy dimwit. Glad that scenario worked out for your nurse-friend. And, oh my... those ramps and fiddleheads look delicious. Sweet photos. Oh, and thank you for the Minx recommendation the other day! The first two episodes were excellent and the third had its moments. Though I don't usually watch this kind of thing, this hit the spot... and I found the magazine-publishing backdrop of this show fascinating, though not always anatomically correct. Can't wait to sit down and watch the next several episodes. Nice mid-week MATs!
