Happy World Book Day! 042322
A little shameless self-promotion and some good reading! What's on your mind today? Day 54!
Before the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements, I wrote and published a scandalous book about my intimate, sexual, sometimes humorous, and often heart-breaking relationships with men (and women) during my late-20s while I was living in Portland, Oregon. You can get it here, or you can contact me and I’d be happy to send you a personally signed copy!
An interesting tidbit about my book is that my father was my editor. He is a well-known writer himself, and when we were working on this project there was nothing like those 9 am mornings reviewing paragraphs like this from Chapter 8 titled, “The Mister.” My dad is such a trooper and a pro.
Staggeringly, after my book was published, many of the star men I wrote about purchased it, and read it. And they wrote to me and thanked me. Thinking about these responses always makes me smile because they took my brutal honesty seriously, and in the best possible light. Intriguing, right? And whatever we may have done, I was responsible too, for better and worse. Are you hooked yet? Happy World Book Day, friends.
From sex and family drama to work woes and hangovers, what's on your mind today? Welcome to a space to reflect light on three things, and please share if you're comfortable doing so. Happy Saturday.
What a book…so personal and truthful. You take the reader on such a journey of your life. Fantastic in-depth writing. Might be time for me to reread this. 💚🌻
I learned a lot in For Better And Worse about the free-spirited and big-hearted Jessica B. Sokol. You write with a cinematic clarity that puts you in the company of some very gifted and cutting-edge writers. Plus you are a joy to work with! As I get older, I appreciate good writing more than ever, and quality writing is an art that is every bit as important in 2022 as it was a hundred years ago. Probably more important. Happy World Book Day, indeed!
