H is for Howth! 042622
Welcome to the eighth installment of (missing) travel adventures in Morning After Thoughts. What's on your mind this morning? Here we go. Day 57!
Howth is a picturesque charming coastal village that you can get to from Dublin’s city center on the DART (train) easily as long as you time your day correctly. We visited in the freezing cold of January, but it’s worth the journey as long as you’re bundled up. We found a happening rugby bar quite quickly after the ride to warm our souls with hot whiskeys, walked through Howth Market enjoying hand-crafted falafels, and hiked the seaside harbor. One refreshing part about Howth is there were very few tourists this time of year, and we met some lively locals.
For some mysterious reason my mom loves to drag us to explore castles after dark which is not one of my favorite pastimes, but she’s successfully done it throughout Ireland and Scotland, and Howth was no exception. Feeling the ghosts outside Howth Castle Grounds in the pitch black is not my cup of tea.
What is my cup of tea? A tea house! The magnificently bohemian Dog House and Blue’s Tea Room with cushy couches, endless wine and cigar lists, and fire places is a gem of a restaurant and bar that you won’t want to leave. One thing I cannot stress enough is that if you don’t get the last DART of the day back to Dublin, you’re going to be stuck. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing! Hooked on Howth yet?
From sex and travel drama to work woes and hangovers, what's on your mind today? Welcome to a space to reflect light on three things, and please share if you're comfortable doing so.
Fond memories of this seaside village. Thank you for indulging me in nighttime castle adventures. (Did we really see a black car appear out of nowhere and zoom up the Castle driveway behind us)? 😱
Falafels and Howth Lighthouse!!
Lucky for us The Dog House & Blue's Tea Rooms was next door to the DART station.
Can’t wait ‘til our next journey.
Word to the wise. Never root for an English rugby team in a rugby bar in Ireland. Lol. Such great memories Mrs Snugs! ❤️❤️❤️
