Friday and Reminiscence 031122
From sex and family drama to work woes and hangovers, what's on your mind first thing in the morning? Welcome to a safe space to reflect light on three things and share. Here we go, day 14.
I’ve been thinking about empathy or lack thereof. Friendships are fickle but should not be. With so many people feeling comfortable to gather again without hesitation, keep in mind that not all of us can quite yet. (Trust me, we want to.)
One of my cousins got married at the Omni in Boston in 2012. I was living in Portland, Oregon, at the time, but I flew in for the event. My jet-lagged brain led me to wanting the female wedding singer, Haley, but I really should have fucked the best man just to get it out of my system. He and I walked into the Beantown Pub the next morning (I was meeting a girlfriend to catch up, and he sat on the barstool next to me). We both have an extreme love for Anthony Bourdain, the written word, and a perfectly poured beverage. Nothing would have changed in my life. I would have still flown back to PDX and be married to my wonderful husband.
Last night as I was escorting my parents out of Salon des Snugs (yes, that’s what my husband and I call our home), a small creature almost flew into our door! I yelled, “bird” and my mom screamed “bat!” There was one afternoon during the pandemic when a bird flew into my parent’s garage (where we would hang out together) and was relentless about leaving. I could not even deal with that again.
Bonus thought - Fridays are a day for music! Here’s a piece I wrote about how music moves us and was published in the brilliant Music Museum of New England. You can check it out here! What are you listening to?
What’s on your mind this morning? Even if you’re still in bed, share in the comment section your own Morning After Thoughts, and then together we can all move forward with our day. Happy reading, writing, and connecting!
Cheers,
Jess
