C is for Chicago! 040422
Welcome to the third installment of (missing) travel adventures in Morning After Thoughts. What's on your mind this morning? Here we go, Day 38!
I was in Chicago four years ago today. I have been to Chicago about a dozen times for different reasons. Whether it was for work, play, or layovers, it’s a hell of a fun town with a bitch of an airport. My husband was based out of O’Hare for many years pre-pandemic, and he had to fly from New England to Chicago before he even started his day of hectic flying. But for me, it was always a good long weekend adventure. The photo (above) is from our hotel room at The W (a personal favorite) which has a fabulous view of the water and the Centennial Wheel. Architecture in Chicago is really something, and the architecture boat tour after a couple of cocktails is seriously one of my favorite things to do. Speaking of architecture, skip The Willis Tower (in my opinion an over-priced tourist trap with wannabe Instagram models taking up the views with their poses) and go to The Signature Lounge instead. It has a spectacular cityscape and delectable drinks. (The view from the bathroom is even amazing!)
Chicago is a city of many neighborhoods, and Mr. Snugs and I positively love Boys Town. Parties last all night long, and you can get vegan mozzarella sticks at midnight at Pick Me Up Café with a gem serving you on roller skates. The next morning you can stumble into Replay, an arcade bar, and hear about every hookup from the night before. It’s a really boozy town, and they do bars right. It’s also a city where I feel people know their neighbors, and they like it.
Chicago also does food right! I have several restaurant recommendations, but my favorite would probably be The Chicago Diner. They have two locations and award-winning vegan milkshakes. I met one of the creators of Chicago Diner at my favorite restaurant in Dublin, strangely enough. It was a true stroke of lucky connections. My brunch from today in 2018 at The Chicago Diner is featured below. Are you hungry yet?
From sex and family drama to work woes and hangovers, what's on your mind today? Welcome to a safe space to reflect light on three things, and please share in comments.
Cheers,
Jess
Such a fun city and you captured our time there beautifully! 🥰🥰🥰
I am getting hungry, reading this at 5:30, and the Chicago Diner brunch looks awesome! I also want to see that view you mention from the Signature Lounge bathroom window. Nice to hear your reflections on The Windy City. I've been in O'Hare more times than I care to admit, but your Morning After Thoughts make me want to stroll around the city one day. But not in the winter! I love these city-themed MATs!
